Hailey
I am glad the awkwardness between Payton and my dad didn’t last long. For a moment there I was seriously holding my breath throughout the whole breakfast. I was more than a little mortified when I woke up this morning, got out of bed to get orange juice, and find my father and Daisy in the kitchen looking at me like I had something on my face. Geesh. I tried to explain, but he wouldn’t hear any of it. I do get it because I don’t want to hear about him and Daisy either. But still, I know it’s not easy for fathers and daughters to go through this, so I was hoping my dad would be cool about it.
When he and Payton walk outside, I exhale the breath I have been holding. Plus I have been dying to talk to Daisy alone anyway.
“Finally. They left.” She quirks her eyebrow up at me in question.
“What’s up Hails?” I frown. I hate it when she calls me that.
“I know we have discussed it before. But I still feel, I don’t know. Like something is wrong with me for being drawn to his…….aggressiveness if you will. In and out of the bed. You know. I know I should be put off by it, but it actually makes me so hot and bothered. I feel…..”
“Safe. Cherished. Wanton. Warm. Are these the words you are looking for?” I sit there mouth agape. She has literally taken the words right out of my mouth. Aaaaand now I am going to puke. Ewww...she is referring to my dad.
“I am going to ignore you said that me considering I know you are talking about my dad. I guess I just needed to talk it out you know. Talk to someone who understands.” She and I often while we were in school would talk about our ideal man and found we had the same ideals.
“Hailey, our surrendering nature isn’t anything to be ashamed of. We are not exactly submissive, but we do like our men to be manly and a bit more Alpha if you will.” she says lifting her eyebrows in sassiness. I reach over and hit her as we laugh. I feel better. Having someone to talk to is always best.
“So, what have you and Payton worked out. I mean is he coming here to live? Are you going there? And what about kids? Do you want them? Does he?” This girl is moving a mile a minute. I am seeing another side of Daisy and it is another confirmation that she is perfect for my dad. But the truth of her words give me pause nonetheless. I have no idea what is going to happen, and I find myself feeling unsure and sick at the thought.
“I don’t honestly know, Daisy. Forget about kids. We haven't…...oh shit!!”
“What’s wrong, Hails?”
“I just...I just realized I was supposed to have gotten my period yesterday. I haven’t had it since before going to Boston last month. Oh shit, Daisy. I’m going to be sick.
